EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR

BRIEF COMPANY PROFILE

Our client develops, manufactures and sells medical devices to hospitals and health care institutions all over the world. The company is driven by a patient centric focus in their successful pursuit in developing global market leading products – done in close collaboration with doctors and nurses across the globe.

 

Our client is headquartered in Greater Copenhagen with main innovation centers in Denmark and abroad, supported by local development departments and manufacturing sites in Europe, North America and APAC. Most of the company’s revenue is generated through own direct sales affiliates/offices.

 

The company, has been a front runner in identifying an unmet need in their market and have demonstrated superior capabilities in translating this unmet need into significant growth, driven by a strong innovation platform and well-tuned commercial- and supply chain value chains. 


THE POSITION

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Executive Management Director (EMD) is the primary interface and representative of the CEO internally and externally. The EMD is a critical enabler and execution arm of the CEO and will play a key role in:

 

  1. Assisting the CEO in handling critical relationships e.g. the Executive Management Team (EMT), the board and key external stakeholders.

  2. Ensuring executional focus and alignment with the strategy – across the organization.

  3. Ensuring a robust internal and external CEO communication platform in close collaboration with Investor Relations and internal/external communication partners – covering topics from culture, talent management to public relations matters etc.

  4. Driving acquisition integration in a role as Strategic Integration Lead.


The role is also expected to take the lead in the forthcoming corporate strategy process, working in close collaboration with McKinsey and key internal stakeholders.

 

The EMD is empowered to drive results across diverse internal teams and support partners to move these priorities forward. The successful candidate demonstrates ownership mentality and ensures the governance of integrated operating plans (execution, measurement, coordination) to achieve business objectives.

 

The role is also responsible for creating and managing operating routines to ensure that the CEO is prepared to meet with key internal and external audiences, including the Board of Directors, Executive Management meetings, customer meetings, industry associations, and regulators among others.

 

The EMD will also lead strategic and engagement initiatives and act as a liaison for many matters of importance on behalf of the CEO.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

Governance & Execution

  • Engaging and collaborating effectively with the Executive Management Team (EMT) and other key stakeholders to drive shared objectives – hereunder ensuring executional focus and alignment to the strategy.

  • Assisting the CEO in handling critical relationships – e.g. the EMT, the board and key external stakeholders – hereunder organizing and coordinating executive outreach and external relations efforts on behalf of the CEO.

  • Planning and executing EMT governance, developing objectives and agenda and coordinating logistics in partnership with the CEO’s PA.

  • Contributing to identifying key business issues, risks, and opportunities and recommending solutions, options, and multi-stage action plans, including analysis of contingencies, implications, and alternative scenarios.

  • Advising, collaborating with, and providing execution support to, the CEO and the EMT to ensure follow-through and execution on strategically important projects.

  • Managing key CEO meetings hereunder preparation and facilitation.

  • Driving acquisition integration as M&A Integration Lead.

 

Strategic Initiatives

  • Working closely with the EMT on various strategic projects.

  • Managing key strategic initiatives with varying degrees of involvement depending on the initiative, from oversight and collaboration to direct responsibility for execution and outcomes – marshal and direct resources as needed.

  • Planning and facilitating enterprise-wide initiatives, acting as champion on behalf of the CEO, to drive key initiatives e.g. heading up forthcoming corporate strategy process and ensuring follow-up on action items to monitor progress and drive closure.

  • Assisting the CEO, as requested in developing and implementing business objectives.

 

Communication & Business Management

  • Organizing board and EMT meetings by:

    • Reviewing/preparing board/EMT package materials – hereunder researching, compiling, drafting, editing and proofreading correspondence and documents, presentations and reports where requested/required with support from the CEO PA.

  • Developing CEO communication materials e.g. Board presentations, sometimes in collaboration with Corporate Communications:

    • Ensuring messaging and flow of presentations are aligned early.

    • Gathering required data and conducting accurate supporting analyses.

  • Influencing, communicating and building relationships at all levels of the organization, including resolving issues and seeking consensus among diverse groups of stakeholders.

Key success criteria:

  • Achieving a close and mutually rewarding relationship with the CEO.

  • Achieving a strong and respectful collaboration with the EMT.

  • Successfully driving the future corporate strategy process.

  • Successfully heading up integration processes of acquired companies with support from the wider organization.

  • Providing the CEO and members of the EMT with  leverage in moving projects forward by assisting with information gathering, communicating with different parties, developing and monitoring plans, keeping track of responsibilities, and so on.

  • Anticipating needs of the CEO and develop initiatives/solutions that will meet these needs.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Educational background:

Commercial degree at M.Sc./MBA level or similar.

Language:

English – fluent (verbally and written).

Ideal experience and competencies:

  • 4+ years of experience from tier-1 consulting, preferably combined with proven success in planning, governance and execution in positions of similar scope and complexity.

  • Well-versed in Program/Project level planning, status reporting, financials and risk management.

  • Proven experience of navigating smoothly within change management frameworks.

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications.

  • Demonstrated skills in scoping, planning, and executing multiple, and quick-turnaround projects and analyses with minimal outside assistance.

  • Demonstrated ability to reach an in-depth, holistic understanding of the business objectives, strategies, and priorities of a company combined with experience with  planning and governance structures necessary to deliver on these priorities.

  • Demonstrated superior level of organizational intelligence and ability to operate effectively in a complex environment, under pressure and to tight deadlines with discretion and political sensitivity.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills.
